From a standpoint of someone who mostly goes on social media before bed, Buzzfeed seems to be more entertainment while the New York Times is news based. Buzzfeed is just like many other sites that have gotten attention for their viral videos and entertaining staff. The New York Times in an institution and will never be an outlet for gossip. They both fill very important roles in our society, but both will not always be needed.
The New York Times is a well-known and loved newspaper. The have an audience of millions and have a great reputation. They are respected in society and people trust them to repot important and truthful news. Other forms of news would not be able to report on much if they did not have the New York times to reference. If for any reason it were to shut down, the ramifications would be huge. The have a large support system that would fight for the paper no matter what. People trust the times and for many reasons it will always be around because people need journalists to dig and show up to events so that we can be well informed and know what is going on in the world around us.
Buzzfeed on the other hand is a media source for gossip and entertainment. They are most known for the videos they post and not much else. They are just like any other entertainment outlet, such as Cosmo. If the day came that Buzzfeed were to shut down, I do not think that the ramifications would be very bad. People would be upset, but there are so many more sites just like it that they wouldn’t be missed very much. Buzzfeed is not like the New York Times. They have not been around for decades and they are not a necessary source for information. You really only need Buzzfeed to learn about celebrities or get a good laugh in for the day. Between the two news media sources, the New York Times would have a bigger impact if lost.
